Well, what a way to round out our Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season! Just shows what a rollercoaster the BTCC can be. First, another race win at Brands Hatch with the car driving superbly under changing conditions. Then a second top five finish followed later in the day to complete our best season to date in the ultra-competitive championship. On a circuit that suits our Laser Tools Racing Mercedes-Benz A-Class, I started the weekend with the second fastest time in...
ForeverForward with Aiden Moffat
Posted on Wednesday 20 September 2017
As reported by the official BTCC website: Laser Tools Racing’s Aiden Moffat sealed his maiden weekend Dunlop #ForeverForward honours of 2017 at Silverstone, making up the second-highest number of positions over a meeting this year with a massive 30 places gained. The young Scot was on a real charge as he strived to make up ground from his starting berth of 24th after Saturday’s qualifying session. He steered his Mercedes-Benz A-Class to a stunning eighth and just seven seconds shy of...

What a weekend that was! We had a great start to the weekend with fifth best time in the second practice session and there was optimism going into qualifying, but I struggled to find track space to hook up a decent lap time. In addition, the field was so closely-matched that the cars were split by thousandths of a second, meaning that although my best lap was only half a second away from pole, it still put me 24th on the grid for the opening 22-lap race. However I had a terrific...

What a mixed weekend at Rockingham! My Mercedes-Benz A-Class started the weekend well with the team working hard to find a good set-up on the car, a process which is always a compromise given the nature of the circuit: part fast banked corners, part twisty infield. With the car tuned for qualifying, I went into the 30-minute session with a car that I felt could deliver a competitive grid position but discovered to my frustration that the car felt different from earlier in the day...

We started the weekend with 13th fastest time in the opening practice session which was run in wet but drying conditions, meaning that the team had to adapt our Laser Tools Racing Mercedes-Benz A-Class to the changing track surface. Excellent eighth fastest time in the second, dry, practice session before a heavy rain shower soaked the circuit for qualifying. As the road dried, I had a lap time disallowed as I was adjudged to have exceeded track limits so had to try again for a good grid...

The weekend started well, I was happy with my ninth fastest lap time in the final practice session before the all-important qualifying period. I qualified 14th fastest and started the opening race from the seventh row of the grid, with my targets being points and as high a finishing position as possible as that would be my starting place for race two. In race one I was happy enough with the car and its pace and I was planning ahead for race two; I was up to 11th place before I became a last lap...

Well, what a difficult weekend we had at Croft, North Yorkshire, in rounds 13, 14 and 15 of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. On Saturday, with the car rebuilt after the shenanigans at Oulton Park, all the running was conducted in wet weather on an absolutely treacherous track. We used the two free practice sessions to get a good set-up for qualifying, but, and it was a big “but”, the afternoon’s qualifying session was abandoned after just eight minutes running.A car had dropped...

Well, what a mixed weekend at Oulton Park, as I enjoyed a strong opening race but suffered a bruising bang into the barriers in race three. The weekend began very positively with third fastest time in qualifying, and I was in buoyant mood going into race one. I wasn’t that confident coming into the event but the car had been amazing, night and day better than it was here last year. In fact, it was the best that the car had felt in a long time.I started third on the grid for the opening 15-lap...

Struggled a bit at the start of the weekend with the rear end of the Mercedes A-Class being a little unpredictable, but the team worked hard to make the car more stable for qualifying. In qualifying achieved 12th on the 32-strong grid — unfortunately I had made a mistake through the final chicane and that ruined a lap that had the potential for p5.After an engine change before race day, I started race one in optimistic mood, but made a tiny error on the opening corners, which dropped me two...

The team and our Laser Tools Racing Mercedes-Benz A-Class arrived at the Kent speedbowl buoyed by an excellent podium finish at the end of 2016. The weekend started badly however when a regulation component failed, causing the car to lose a wheel in free practice session one. The team repaired the car for the second session and the car’s pace was excellent, our best lap just .38 sec behind that fastest recorded lap. Therefore we went into qualifying with optimism. However, qualifying turned into...

Wow! What a day! And what an end to the season. Three top 10 finishes, which included a top six and my best-ever second place which completed my best weekend in the championship.Saturday’s qualifying session was on an initially dry track, the car was performing well and I was happy to post a 7th place time. Well, what a weekend! With changeable weather forecast, the first free practice session was wet, but to be honest, wet weather does not really bother me too much. However, when checking the car over after the session was finished, No 1 Mechanic Tim Sleigh was suspicious that there was fuel or oil in the cooling system. Draining the system confirmed this, so Race Engineer Federico Turrata made the decision to fit a new engine. To give ourselves enough time for this we had to miss the second free...

Well, happy to report a successful weekend at Knockhill, and I’m also happy to report three points-scoring finishes with strong top-ten finishes in both races 2 and 3.Knockhill is traditionally difficult in qualifying as it is a short racing circuit and a pretty full field of 31 cars all trying to find that clear lap, so I had to settle for P12. I would have liked better, but of course it could have been worse! There was good pace in the car, I probably could, or should, have qualified better...

After qualifying in P14, Race 1 got off to a great start and I had brilliant pace in the car, and would have had a great chance to be within the top 10…However I then received a 30 second stop-go penalty which immediately put me in last position. The penalty was because on the grid, apparently all four wheels were not on the car with three minutes to go until the start of the race (the three-minute rule). The ideal of this rule is that there can be no last-minute tyre changes. For...

Final BTCC weekend of the year and the championship still had not been decided. Whatever was to happen, it was going to be an exciting weekend for everyone involved in the series, from drivers and teams to the spectators. With our car fully repaired after the massive shunt at the previous Rockingham round, I now looked to Northamptonshire and the world famous Silverstone circuit. This fast circuit was always going to be a challenge, due to the straight line speed of the Mercedes being our biggest issue. However, our race pace was a lot better and we climbed up to P13, but...

The Cheshire village of Little Budworth and the famous and historic venue of Oulton Park was our destination for round 4 of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. The track is very challenging and demanding for the driver, perceived as being narrow with few overtaking opportunities.
